GERMANY: Outdated XRechnung Versions to be
Deprecated in Peppol Network

Authorities in Germany have announced a major cleanup of the Peppol network’s document types to improve the security and quality of electronic data exchange. Numerous outdated versions of XRechnung (the German CIUS of EN 16931) have been marked as deprecated and are scheduled for deactivation in favor of more modern standards.

Key Deadline: August 1, 2026

Following the release of the Open Peppol eDec Code List v9.5, all XRechnung versions below 3.0 have been officially flagged. According to the planned schedule, the following profiles will be changed to “Removed” status on August 1, 2026:

• All outdated profiles up to and including XRechnung 2.1.
• XRechnung UBL Credit Note V2.2, V2.3, and V3.0 Extensions.

For the remaining profiles of versions 2.2 and 2.3, deactivation is expected to occur no earlier than 2027, following the publication of the updated EN 16931 standard.

Recommendations for System Upgrades

To ensure uninterrupted and secure data exchange, the authorities strongly recommend that all participants migrate to the current XRechnung 3.0 version immediately. The implementation window was deliberately chosen to provide businesses with sufficient time to adjust their technical systems to the latest security standards.
