European Union: European Commission Launches
Review of the E-Invoicing Directive and Invites
Stakeholders to Submit Feedback

The European Commission has initiated the process of revising Directive 2014/55/EU, which governs the use of electronic invoices in public procurement. The aim of the revision is to address shortcomings in the current framework and ensure a more uniform and interoperable use of e-invoices across all EU Member States.

Through the updated rules, the Commission seeks to make issuing and receiving electronic invoices a standard practice throughout the EU, while ensuring consistent implementation and improved technical connectivity between systems. To support this effort, the Commission has opened a Call for Evidence, available until 17 December.

Following this phase, a 12-week public consultation will be launched, allowing stakeholders to provide more detailed views and proposals. Organisations, businesses and the expert public are invited to contribute their perspectives and help shape the future of electronic invoicing in Europe.
