Germany / New Peppol Standard “GEBA”
Launched for German Businesses
The Coordination Office for IT Standards (KoSIT) has officially announced the release of the GEBA (German Electronic Business Address), a new addressing standard for German participants in the Peppol network.
Key Information:
- Identifier Scheme: GEBA has been assigned the international ICD code 0246 for use in Peppol Participant Identifiers.
- W-IdNr Foundation: The address is based on the German Economic Identification Number (W-IdNr), which consists of “DE” followed by 9 digits.
- Scalable Structure: The format allows for optional extensions, including a 5-digit differentiator assigned by tax authorities and a custom 1-to-8 character sub-address defined by the business.
- Optional Adoption: Use of the GEBA standard is voluntary, allowing it to coexist with other established addressing schemes.
This initiative aims to provide a reliable, transparent, and flexible electronic addressing system for all economic operators in Germany, facilitating smoother cross-border and domestic digital trade.
