Spain Launches Massive Digital Training Program:
€200 Million Investment for 80,000 Professionals
The Spanish government has allocated €200 million for a digital skills training program for professional associations. The program, starting in the last quarter of 2025, will train 80,000 professionals in digitalization and artificial intelligence.
One of Spain’s most comprehensive training programs to accelerate digital transformation is getting underway. Red.es, an entity under the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Service, will manage the digital skills training program within professional associations.
Next Generation EU Funds Activated
The program is financed by Next Generation EU funds under Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The project, part of the “Generación D” initiative, aims to contribute to the modernization of the country’s professional structure and strengthen its competitiveness in an increasingly digital environment.
Registration process: Professionals are expected to begin registering for courses from the second half of September. Unión Profesional has prepared a pre-registration form for interested parties.
Comprehensive Training Model
The 150-hour training program is structured in two blocks:
- First block (40 hours): Common training providing a solid foundation in digital skills applicable to any professional field
- Second block (110 hours): Specific content adapted to each sector for direct application in professional environments
The program targets professionals in key sectors including healthcare, legal, economic, social services, engineering, and architecture. Specialized training will be offered by General Councils and Professional Associations participating in the program.
Other Pillars of Generación D
Red.es has also allocated €45 million for basic digital skills training for seniors, people with disabilities, and vulnerable groups, and €120 million for artificial intelligence research through 374 research contracts with Spain’s leading research centers.
The initiative represents Spain’s commitment to building digital competencies across its professional workforce, ensuring the quality of services offered to citizens while preparing the country for an increasingly digitalized future.
