Rental and Leasing Services
The Malaysian government has officially gazetted the Service Tax (Rate of Tax) (Amendment) Order 2026 on March 13, 2026. This legislative move confirms the Ministry of Finance’s earlier announcement regarding the reduction of service tax for specific sectors.
Key highlights of the amendment include:
- Rate Reduction: The service tax rate applied to rental or leasing services has been decreased from 8% to 6%.
- Retrospective Effect: Although the order was published in March, it is deemed to have come into operation effective from January 1, 2026.
- Legal Implementation: This formal order serves as the official execution of the fiscal measures decided by the Ministry of Finance at the beginning of the year.
