SPAIN: Government Promotes Electronic Invoicing
to Reduce Administrative Burden and Late Payments

The Spanish Government has taken a decisive step to mandate the use of electronic invoicing in commercial transactions between companies and freelancers. Approved by the Council of Ministers, this initiative aims to streamline administrative processes and tackle the persistent issue of late payments (delinquency) in the business sector.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, this digital transition is a key pillar for the modernization of the Spanish productive fabric. As stated in the official communication from the Ministry, the implementation of e-invoicing will foster greater transparency in commercial relations and significantly lower operational costs for businesses.

The regulation is also designed to help SMEs adapt to the digital era, providing tools to monitor payment deadlines more effectively and ensuring better liquidity management across the economy.
